.380 auto

today was a GLORIOUS day :) we started our day by going to don's meats in clearfield. we're going to a BBQ at my parents' tomorrow so we can make some plans about the wedding and just visit. we got las vegas steaks and their marinated chicken. it's going to be delicioso! :)

after that, we went to ikea :) we got a lamp for me to put next to my bed so i can read at night. also, some tupperware and curtains. i am already working on fixing up tj's apartment for when i live there... i know i still have a while lol :)

then, the best part was going to cabela's :) tj and i had been looking at getting me a pistol to take shooting when he goes. i wanted to be able to know how to handle a gun and what to do, how to shoot, how to clean a gun and all that good stuff. we had debated back and forth about what would be appropriate for me to start with. also we went over price and pros and cons of each.... after a while we were going back and forth between a .22 and a .380 because they're both pretty small and a good starting point. so at cabelas, we wanted to look at different ones and hold them and see how they fit in my hand and what i liked. we were looking at one and the salesman came up and said he had a pink one if we were interested. [btw, we had been looking at pink guns...] we said sure and before we went over to see it, tj said we were interested in looking at the Ruger LCP. the man just chuckled to himself and said, yeah, that's the pink one i was going to show you. at this point, i became ecstatic because we were going to order that one if i liked how it felt. well let me just tell you, I LOVE IT! we bought it. we also got ammo and some stuff to clean it.

well, anyway, after we got back to tj's i was just trying to get used to it and i was practicing loading the magazine with snap caps. it turns out the slide is super stiff still and i have a very weak left hand lol.... i'm not very good at getting the slide to stay back but i'm getting better. i'm definitely excited to get good at cleaning it, taking it apart and putting it back together.

i just wanted to show you how small it is. it fits in the palm of my hand! :)

on another note, i just wanted to show you how patriotic tj is :) he wanted a flag pole but here at the apartment complex, but because it's an apartment, there are so many rules about hanging things and stuff and there wasn't really anywhere to put it. so he came up with a way to hang it. he took a sheet of metal and curved it so it would hang over the outside closet door and screwed the flag pole holder into that. and now he can hang his flag up. which he did today and i'm thinking he will the rest of memorial day weekend too :)

i hope everyone has an awesome weekend! be safe!

the power of words....

well... i've been working on an essay that i am required to turn in with my nursing application, which is due june 17, 2010. my goal is to start the nursing program at the Davis ATC january of 2011... that seems really far away but i have SOOOO much to do before then! and that is if i even get in! anyway, i'm thinking that for the essay, i want to begin with a quote from florence nightengale. here are some i've found appropriate so far:

"You ask me why I do not write something.... I think one's feelings waste themselves in words, they ought all to be distilled into actions and into actions which bring results."

“I think one's feelings waste themselves in words; they ought all to be distilled into actions which bring results.”

"So never lose an opportunity of urging a practical beginning, however small, for it is wonderful how often in such matters the mustard-seed germinates and roots itself."

the more i think about it, i really think i could incorporate all three into a very appropriate essay that applies to my life and the goals i have in becoming a nurse. anyway, everyone should encourage me to work really hard on my application and essay so that i can get into nursing school! otherwise, i'll be stuck going to school for 97 years! and i don't want that :(

while looking for those quotes, i also ran across a poem that i have loved every since my junior year of high school...

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
e.e. cummings

so now i'm working on incorporating this poem somewhere in our wedding.... i'm sure i'll come up with something :) i'm also remembering the cliche verses from I Corianthians:

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails [...] And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

anyway, these are just ideas i'm having.... thanks for reading! let me know what you think about my ideas for the essay! truthfully, i'd love any ideas about anything related to that or the wedding :)

brilliant!

wow! as i was looking through some more blogs today, i ran across this DIY idea! a birdseed wedding toss! i'm definitely going to have to follow through with this idea! it will go sooooo perfectly with all of our other wedding ideas! :) so excited! :)

the news of now...

well, lately, i have been LOVING looking at peoples' blogs! it inspires me to be an amazing blogger... but really i doubt that will happen.... in the meantime, here are some of my favorite blogs!

my favorite lately is this one! she has sooo many amazing ideas to create a wedding that is completely unique! it's where i've gotten most of my ideas for my wedding :) for example, this wedding shows off some of what i love! the rustic-y wood background setting and the idea of wearing a sweater! that's one of my most favorite things! :) anyway, i just wanted y'all to see my "inspiration wedding" we are taking so many little details from it! the pies, the hay bales, the twine with pics hanging, and we LOVE the food! i need to find some glass containers like they had for serving the drinks! also, i love the way the bride lined the aisle here with lanters. i'm looking for other ideas and things, and i don't wanna spill all the beans here but just thought i'd wet everyones' pallets :) we'll keep ya updated! so excited i figured out how to link things :) i'm getting better at it! :)

an update!

well... only 134 days left! woo! :) we are getting so so so excited! here's a little update :)

kym graduated from college! :) we had a really great dinner and celebration :) we are so proud of you kym :) after that, on sunday, we celebrated mother's day and had a really good time grilling burgers and visiting :)

as far as the wedding plans... we have sort of hit a road block lol :) we were going to have the wedding at the church where i grew up and the reception there also. however, after doing lots more research and thinking, i realized i wanted to have a more special outdoor event with games, a fire, sparklers, lights everywhere and fun and yummy food! so tj and i are battling out our ideas! ;) ok really, there isn't much of a battle going on. we pretty much agree on what we want! can't wait for all of our ideas to come together and to see the whole event! 134 days seems like an eternity! but i know it'll come quick... :)

other than that our lives are pretty much the same.... just work and life. i've been watching my parents' house while they go to lisa's graduation and tj is getting all of his "stuff" ready! he's movin! woo! oh and i got a new car :) it's a 2008 mazda 6 it's sooo cute! :) yay :) oh i also got a sort of "job promotion" as the unit secretary. it's a very delightful change from wiping bums and cleaning up vomit :)
