day one.

today is the first day of my new diet. technically i wouldn't consider it a "diet" so much as a strict way of teaching you better eating habits. i'm doing the HCG diet with my good friend at work. we are so excited! i am hoping to do the 40 day plan. but if at day 26 i'm doing well, i may stop the drops and work on the maintenance and then do another round after a few months. anyway, i'm so excited! so i'm being super honest here {SCARY!} but on the first day, i am weighing in at 215.6 pounds. i would like to get to 180 and if i do the 40 days that is a realistic expectation. really i would say my goal weight is about 165 ish but i know i won't get to that point in one round. so for now, wish me luck! it's going to take a bunch of will power! but i know that it's always more fun when you have people to prove wrong ;p

poem.

i was reading a blog about a little baby diagnosed to be back with Jesus 6-12 months after birth. this poem was on the blog but i feel like it's appropriate for all of our babies....

I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," He said.
For you to love the while he lives
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care or him for Me?
He'll bring his smiles to gladden you,
And should this stay be brief
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked this world over
In search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd
Life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor count the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call to
Take him back again?"
I fancied that I heard then say,
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,The risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that come
And try to understand."

a very sad day....

Today my baby turned two months! TWO FREAKIN' MONTHS Y'ALL!!!! it is absolutely insane to me how quickly the time has passed! here's a couple stats for the books ;)

6.8.11: 7 pounds 8 oz 20.5 inches long
8.8.11: 12 pounds 2.5 oz 22.5 inches long [although i'm pretty sure that silly MA mis-measured his length!]

anyway, doc says he's doing well and he's a cutie! {let's be honest though, we already knew that!} i was so so so worried about him because i knew he was going to be getting his shots today. i have never seen a baby get their shots but in my head it was this horrendous event filled with alligator tears and lots and lots of screaming. not the case. he cried for a second when the needles, yes NEEDLES [there were three!] went into his chunky monkey thighs but as soon as i picked him up he was fine. he's been really sleepy ever since he was done but now he is super content sleeping on daddy's chest, which is seriously my favorite thing to see!

GroVia Cloth Wipes!

I have found a new hobby! I am loving cloth diapering and with it comes cloth wipes. So far I'm just using cut up pieces of cloth. It works. I am now working on winning diapers and wipes from other blogs. Anyway, I am really hoping I can win these GroVia wipes! Here is the link.

SIX WEEKS!

oh my stars! i CANNOT believe barrett has been here for six weeks already! it's insane. it feels like he's been here forever! i just can't picture him not being here! he is 11.9 pounds as of this morning which means he's getting so big :) he is smiling all the time! especially when i talk silly to him or imitate his sounds. tj installed a ceiling fan in the main room this week which barrett LOVES too coo and smile at. i love just watching and listening to him :) he is also now sleeping more at night! YAY! he generally goes to bed around 8:30 or so and wakes up to be changed and eat at around 2 then 6 am. but he doesn't actually get up until close to 9 am! this momma is very happy about that. i do think it will start to be even longer stretches because he's been going a little longer and eating more than 4 oz at his feedings.

anyway, we went to cali for fourth of july to see my grandparents and aunts, uncles, and cousins. we had an AMAZING time! my grandma was in absolute heaven i think... we didn't really do a lot other than visit which was the best part to me. :) i'm so grateful that we got to go down there :)

on the 31st of july, we are going to do barrett's baby dedication. we're so grateful that God blessed us with this healthy, happy, cutie and definitely want to raise him to know God. :) it'll be fun too because uncle james, aunt karen, and the kiddos are coming out. we'll also be going shooting. yay for family fun time ;)

the most intense day of my life!

Barrett made his appearance :) tj and i are so blessed and in love with our little man!

on tuesday june 7, i woke up thinking i had peed the bed. it just kept coming so my genius self finally figured out my water had broken. so i called tj home from work... while i was waiting for him to show up, i showered and got my things together thinking no more water was going to come out. WRONG. it just keeps coming and coming. all the way to the hospital. we got to ogden regional around 830 am and i got checked in and set up in my room. at about 9 i got an IV and fluids and pitocin going. i had hoped to have a natural birth but because i wasn't contracted and because of risk of infection, we had to get things going with pitocin. i was a tough banana for about 8 hours. then i just couldn't do it anymore. i got an epidural at about 415 pm. relief.  i felt so much better. i had gotten a shot of fentanyl earlier but it didn't do anything for my pain and only made me really sleepy. after the epidural, i had still not progressed much. i think i was at a 4 or 5 but that was it. i was so out of it. i wasn't really talking to anyone and still can't remember a lot of what happened. i was in this weird "zone" i don't even know how to explain it. i continued to labor and still didn't make much progress. i was feeling discouraged and feared that i was going to have to have a c-section. i threw up several times and that was miserable too.... it did help me progress a little bit tho which was a blessing in disguise. at around 11 pm, dr. alejo came in to see how i was doing. i broke down in tears from exhaustion and fear. he asked what i wanted to do because Barrett's heart rate was decelerating with my contractions. he said i had been at this for a long time and if i wanted a c-section he would do it. he also said we could infuse fluid to make him more comfortable which would hopefully help him. i was so tired but i said i wanted to continue. so that's what we did. he was bouncing back and forth between me and another girl at mckay dee so he came back a little later (i think 3 or 4 am ish) and checked and i was like a 7. so he said he was going to go home and rest because he had been up all day and night. at a little after 4 am, i was feeling incredible amounts of pressure so the nurse checked me and i was complete! she did some practice pushes with me to see if she should call alejo back and she decided she should. she kept pushing with me for a while and said alejo was on his way. then she said to stop pushing haha. guess he was closer than the doc was :) when alejo got there, he said let's see how she does when pushing and instantly said "ok i'll get dressed" yay! i don't remember how many pushes or how long but i know it wasn't too many because he came at 5:54 am :) they put him on my chest and i was rubbing his back and his belly and i just cried with joy. i was ecstatic. this is what i was meant to be: a mom. i was so happy :) tj was pretty happy too ;) they took him and cleaned him off and weighed and measured him. he was 7 lbs 8 oz and 20.5 inches long. come to find out, the cord was wrapped around his neck a couple times which is what slowed labor a bit because he kept spinning around in there.

anyway, he's ten days old now and he's doing really well! he eats constantly and sleeps a ton. i have to wake him up at night to feed him which is actually nice. don't worry, i'm sure it will change soon.... :)

tj and i are so thankful for all the prayers and love and support. we are so excited about this journey we have started together! it's crazy how much changes in a year.... :)
